The widower Choi is impotent. He adopts the infants Mun and Su-ryun and
raises them. Mun graduates from college in Seoul but he can't adjust to
Seoul life so he returns to Choi's home. Mun learns that Su-ryun is not his
sister in blood and he falls in love with her. When Choi discovers Mun and
Su-ryun meeting secretly, he forces Mun back to Seoul. Mun meets the
dancer Suk on his way and returns home. Since Mun is at home, Choi
sends Su-ryun away. Su-ryun is unable to forget her home so she returns
home on a day that is raining cats and dogs. Underneath a steel bridge, Su-
ryun is raped by Jong-su and ends up dead. Meanwhile, Mun had left home
when Su-ryun died. He is returning home when he discovers Choi crying
with Su-ryun's body in his arms. His rage exploding, Mun grabs Su-ryun's
body and takes it away.

Sailor Du-jin meets Eun-ju in a bar in Heuksan Island. Eun-ju sells fish in
the fish market. She escapes as Du-jin hides her in a large bag. Amidst the
sailors' congratulations, Du-jin and Eun-ju get married on the ship deck and
live happily. But when they dock in Mokpo, they get caught for Madam
Maigori of the bar in Heuksan Island had put the word out. Eun-ju is sent to
another island. Eun-ju is sent from one island to another before finally
staying put on Younpyung Island. Du-jin searches for her. Many boats dock
at Younpyung Island during their fish market. At a bar, there is a shortage of
women so Eun-ju is brought in. In a room, Eun-ju meets Du-jin. Eun-ju runs
through the mud fields. Du-jin goes after, covering her wounds with his
body. Du-jin pays back Eun-ju's debts. Promising to love one another, the
two get on the leaving fishing boat.
